Quetta/Islamabad (Terror Monitor) — Pakistani security forces killed 10 militants, including a woman, during operations following attacks at three locations in the coastal district of Gwadar in Balochistan, the military said. One civilian was also killed during the incidents.
The banned Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for the attacks and issued the names of seven of its members whom it said were killed in clashes with security forces. The list included Jind Nadar Sarmaachar Khalid, alias Zamar, and Mujahid Mehr, alias Sagar Zamarani.
According to available reports, the attacks began on Thursday evening, October 22, with a suicide bombing targeting a camp associated with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), a military-linked engineering and construction organisation. Other incidents were reported in the Suntsar area and near the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing along Pakistan’s border with Iran.
The circumstances surrounding the attacks, the full extent of the damage and the casualty figures reported by the opposing sides have not been independently verified.
Pakistan Army Says 10 Militants Killed
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said militants had attempted attacks at the Gabd border crossing and in different parts of Gwadar city.
Security forces responded to the attacks, killing 10 militants, including a woman, during exchanges of fire, the statement said.
One civilian was also killed, while several vehicles were damaged. The military said security personnel suffered no casualties and that the operations had been completed successfully.
According to the ISPR, security forces subsequently restored law and order and re-established the state’s authority in the affected areas.
The military also criticised the alleged involvement of a Baloch woman in the attacks, saying militants were exploiting women for propaganda purposes and attempting to provoke public sentiment.
The ISPR did not identify the woman in its statement. Her identity and specific role in the incidents have not been independently established.
BLF Names Seven Members Killed in Clashes
In a statement, the Balochistan Liberation Front said seven of its members were killed in clashes with security forces in Gwadar.
The group identified those killed as Jind Nadar Sarmaachar Khalid, alias Zamar; Bilkees Didag, alias Almas; Hameedullah, alias Badal; Shakeel, alias Sohrab; Mujeeb Zaib, alias Aftab; Nasir Ali, alias Nodan; and Mujahid Mehr, alias Sagar Zamarani.
These names and aliases are based on the BLF’s statement. Terror Monitor has not independently verified the identities or the circumstances of their deaths.
The BLF claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying its operations were conducted simultaneously at several locations, including what it described as the FWO’s main camp.
The organisation also made claims about casualties among Pakistani security personnel. However, those claims have not been independently confirmed.
The ISPR, meanwhile, said security forces suffered no fatalities during the operations.
The military’s reported total of 10 militants killed and the BLF’s list of seven members have not been independently reconciled.
Suicide Attack Reported at FWO Camp
Initial reports indicated that a construction camp associated with the Frontier Works Organisation was targeted in a suicide bombing near Gwadar.
The BLF identified the suicide attacker as Jind Nadar Sarmaachar Khalid, alias Zamar, according to the names included in its statement. However, the available information does not independently establish the circumstances of the bombing or confirm the individual’s specific role in the attack.
Local residents reported hearing a powerful explosion followed by additional blasts and gunfire. One resident said the initial explosion was so intense that it appeared to have occurred much closer than it actually had.
Other accounts suggested that the sound of the blast was heard across nearby areas and that windows in some houses were damaged.
Residents also reported that the situation in much of Gwadar city remained relatively normal after the incident, with the attackers reportedly unable to advance into the city’s central areas.
The sequence of events, the extent of the damage and the number of people killed or injured have not been independently established.
Attacks Reported at Three Locations
Information attributed to senior government officials and local residents indicated that the attacks took place at three locations: an FWO camp near Gwadar city, Suntsar and the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing near Iran.
A local resident said a powerful explosion was heard on Thursday evening, followed by smaller blasts and sustained gunfire.
Another resident reported that the firing continued for an extended period after the initial explosion.
Meanwhile, the district administration and police issued a statement saying the security situation at the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing and surrounding areas was under control.
Authorities urged residents not to rely on unverified social media reports and advised them to obtain information from official government sources.
Videos circulated on social media following the attacks appeared to show trucks on fire near the border. However, the location, timing and circumstances depicted in the footage could not be independently verified.
What Is the Frontier Works Organisation?
The Frontier Works Organisation is a Pakistani military-linked engineering and construction organisation involved in major infrastructure projects across the country.
Established more than five decades ago, the organisation has worked on roads, bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure projects. It has also undertaken significant construction contracts in different parts of Pakistan.
Its presence in Balochistan has made its construction facilities and camps potential targets for armed groups opposed to the Pakistani state and its development projects in the province.
Background on the Balochistan Liberation Front
The Balochistan Liberation Front is one of several armed separatist organisations that have carried out attacks against Pakistani security forces and state institutions in Balochistan over several decades.
Dr Allah Nazar Baloch is widely identified as the group’s leader. In 2015, then-Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the provincial government believed Allah Nazar might have been killed during a military operation in Awaran district in August that year.
Allah Nazar appeared in a video in November 2015 and denied reports of his death.
Security analysts have said the BLF’s activities were limited for a period before the organisation attempted to expand its operations again in subsequent years.
Analysts have also pointed to competition among armed separatist groups in Balochistan as a possible factor influencing their tactics and efforts to demonstrate their operational capabilities.
The BLF has reportedly announced the formation of a women’s unit in recent years. The ISPR’s account of a woman being killed during the Gwadar operations has drawn attention to this development, although the woman’s identity and alleged role remain unverified.
In November 2025, the BLF also claimed responsibility for an attack on a Frontier Corps brigade headquarters in Nokundi, Balochistan. Reports of that incident described a suicide bombing at the main gate followed by an assault by other attackers.
Security Situation in Balochistan
The attacks in Gwadar come amid continuing security challenges in Balochistan, where armed separatist groups have repeatedly targeted security personnel, government installations, infrastructure projects and transport routes.
The latest incidents have raised further concerns about the security of construction facilities and border areas in the province.
Pakistani military authorities say the latest operations have been completed and order restored in the affected areas. The BLF, meanwhile, has named seven members it says were killed in clashes with security forces.
Terror Monitor has not independently verified the identities of the individuals named by the BLF, the group’s claims regarding the attacks or the full circumstances of the reported casualties.
