QUETTA (Terror Monitor) — The bodies of 12 people, including two brothers, were found with bullet wounds in three separate districts of Pakistan’s restive southwestern Balochistan province on Tuesday, according to police officials.
Five bodies were recovered near Sui town in Dera Bugti district, another five were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Panjgur, and two bodies were reported in Barkhan district. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and police have not established a motive in the reported killings.
Two Brothers Found Killed in Barkhan
Police said the bodies of two men were recovered in Barkhan district after they had been shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
Barkhan Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Aslam confirmed the incident by telephone but said the killings did not take place within the jurisdiction of his police station.
He said that after receiving information about the two bodies in another area, an ambulance was dispatched to transport them to a hospital.
According to Aslam, the two men were biological brothers. Initial information suggested that they had been assigned security duties in the Bala Dhaka area of Barkhan district.
The motive behind their killings remains unknown, he added.
Nihal Khan, the Station House Officer in the Gursani area of Kohlu district, said the two men belonged to Kohlu but were killed in neighbouring Barkhan district.
Police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the killings or identified any suspects.
Five Bodies Recovered Near Sui in Dera Bugti
In a separate incident, the bodies of five men were recovered approximately four to five kilometres from Sui town in Dera Bugti district.
According to police, the deceased belonged to Dera Bugti.
Police official Amir Hamza confirmed that the five bodies had been found near Sui town. He said the bodies had subsequently been handed over to the victims’ families.
He did not provide further information about the identities of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding their deaths or any possible motive.
Attempts to contact the head of Dera Bugti police for additional information were unsuccessful.
Five Bodies Taken to Hospital in Panjgur
Meanwhile, the bodies of five people were brought to the District Headquarters Hospital in Panjgur, a district bordering Iran in southwestern Balochistan.
Panjgur City Station House Officer Taufiq Ahmed confirmed that the bodies had been transferred to the hospital but said he did not know the circumstances or motives behind the deaths.
Another police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that only one of the five deceased had been identified at the time of reporting.
Authorities had not released further details about the identities of the victims or the locations where they were killed.
Circumstances of Killings Remain Unclear
The recovery of the 12 bodies in Dera Bugti, Barkhan and Panjgur has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the separate incidents.
Police officials have confirmed the recovery of the bodies but have not established whether the killings were connected or involved the same perpetrators.
No group had claimed responsibility for the deaths in the information available at the time of reporting, and authorities had not announced any arrests.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, has experienced a long-running security crisis involving separatist insurgency, militant violence and security operations. However, officials have not linked the latest killings to any particular group or conflict.
Further details about the victims, the circumstances of their deaths and the possible motives are awaited.
