EU Condemns Houthi Attacks in the Red Sea as ‘Unacceptable’

Brussels (Terror Monitor) — The European Union has condemned attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels on commercial cargo ships and oil tankers in the Red Sea, describing them as "unacceptable" and warning that they further escalate regional tensions.
The statement follows a recent Houthi attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the attack on the tanker was "reprehensible, unacceptable, and illegal," adding that it was contributing to an already volatile security situation in the region.
Kallas urged the Houthis to immediately halt all actions that endanger international commercial shipping and threaten the lives of maritime workers.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Saudi Arabia’s potential participation in the Abraham Accords would represent a "historic leap forward" for peace efforts in the Middle East.
The Houthi attack on the Saudi oil tanker has raised fears of a new front opening in the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran, while also pushing global crude oil prices higher.
Earlier this week, the Houthis announced plans to impose a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia and claimed responsibility for attacks on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.
