Four Killed in Two Balochistan Incidents; Dr. Ayesha Faiz Arrested

Quetta (Terror Monitor) — At least four people, including a tribal figure, have been killed in two separate incidents in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province, while two others have reportedly gone missing from Duki district.

Separately, former female police surgeon Dr. Ayesha Faiz has been arrested in Quetta. Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau confirmed her arrest, while a senior government official said two cases had been registered against her.

Three Afghan Nationals Killed, Two Missing in Duki

According to government officials, three people were killed in an attack by unidentified armed men in Duki district. Officials identified the victims as Afghan nationals.

The three victims were reportedly working as guards on agricultural land owned by local tribal leader Sardar Akbar Khan Nasir.

Duki police chief Mansoor Ahmed Buzdar confirmed the deaths of three people and said two others were missing. He said unidentified armed men targeted them at a mountainous location beyond the Jhalar area.

According to the police chief, all those killed and reported missing have been identified, although police did not provide further details about their identities.

Police said an investigation into the incident has been launched, while efforts are underway to recover the missing individuals.

Another government official also confirmed that all three victims were Afghan nationals.

Duki is among the areas of Balochistan that have experienced prolonged unrest and militant activity.

Last Sunday, three brothers were killed and another person injured in a bomb attack near Killi Bakhtiar Luni.

Tribal Figure Killed in Chagai

Meanwhile, tribal figure Malik Karim Dad Mohammad Hassani was killed in an attack by unidentified armed men in Chagai district.

A police official in Chagai, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Malik Karim Dad Mohammad Hassani was targeted by unidentified armed men in Chagai Bazaar in the morning.

The official said the motive for the attack remains unknown and an investigation is underway.

Chagai is a border district of Balochistan, sharing borders with both Afghanistan and Iran.

Former Police Surgeon Dr. Ayesha Faiz Arrested

Separately, former Balochistan police surgeon Dr. Ayesha Faiz was arrested in Quetta.

Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau confirmed her arrest.

A senior government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said two cases had been registered against Dr. Ayesha Faiz.

According to the official, one First Information Report (FIR) was registered by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), while the second was filed by a private citizen.

The official said that if anyone makes statements against the state or expresses support for those seeking to harm the state, the law will take its course against them.

However, full details of the cases registered against Dr. Ayesha Faiz and the specific charges against her were not immediately available.

Who Is Dr. Ayesha Faiz?

Dr. Ayesha Faiz is from Mastung district and is the daughter of prominent Baloch nationalist leader Faiz Mohammad Dehwar.

Her father campaigned for the rights of the people of Balochistan from before the creation of Pakistan until the final years of his life.

Dr. Ayesha Faiz received her education in Mastung and Quetta. After obtaining an MBBS degree, she joined government service.

She served for many years as a police surgeon at Sandeman Provincial Hospital in Quetta and retired from government service a few months ago.

Political Leaders and Lawyers Condemn Arrest

Opposition political leaders and lawyers in Balochistan have condemned Dr. Ayesha Faiz’s arrest.

Former senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani said in a post on X that by arresting Dr. Ayesha Faiz, the government had crossed legal and moral boundaries.

Lawyer and central president of the Jamiat Lawyers Forum, Senator Kamran Murtaza, said responding to disagreements and criticism over political or administrative matters with arrests, the use of force and the enforcement of stringent laws was contrary to democratic values, the Constitution and the spirit of the law.

The Balochistan National Party also condemned Dr. Ayesha Faiz’s arrest, saying that her arrest following a press conference indicated that freedom of expression was now being completely restricted.

Authorities have yet to issue a definitive statement on the motives behind the incidents in Duki and Chagai or identify those responsible. Further details are also awaited regarding the charges against Dr. Ayesha Faiz and the legal basis for her arrest.
