India: Policeman Killed in Targeted Attack in Kashmir

Srinagar (Terror Monitor)— A Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable was killed in a targeted shooting by unidentified armed militants in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag district in Indian-administered Kashmir on Wednesday.
According to officials, the attack took place when a police team deployed in the area came under sudden gunfire. The slain officer was identified as 35-year-old Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, a resident of Budgam district.
Police said Qureshi was assigned security duties for the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. He was critically injured and later died at a government hospital.
CCTV footage reportedly showed a motorcycle-borne attacker firing at him from close range before escaping.
Security forces have launched a search operation to track down the attackers, while an armed group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack on social media.
Authorities have increased security measures across the region amid the ongoing pilgrimage season.
