Indian Army Says LeT Commander Hashim Moosa Killed in Budgam Encounter

New Delhi (Terror Monitor) — The Indian Army’s 15 Corps, also known as Chinar Corps, said the militant killed during a military operation in Budgam district on Tuesday night had been a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander in Kashmir for the past three years.

In a post on X, the Indian Army identified the slain militant as Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa.

According to the Army, Moosa had been overseeing and guiding other LeT militants involved in armed activities against India in Kashmir.

The Chinar Corps said Moosa’s body was recovered following the operation in the Korag area of Budgam, along with what it described as “war-like stores.”

Indian authorities had identified Moosa as a wanted LeT operative in connection with the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people were killed. Jammu and Kashmir Police subsequently released a sketch of him.

Indian security officials have identified Moosa as a Pakistani national and former Pakistan Army Special Services Group (SSG) commando. According to information cited by Indian authorities, Mohammad Asif joined the Pakistan Army in 2000 and was inducted into the SSG in 2005.

He served with the 4 Commando “Yalgar” Battalion and was deployed in Balochistan from 2006, according to Indian security sources. He also reportedly served on the VVIP security team of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf between 2006 and 2009.

The Indian Army said further visual material from the Korag operation would be released later and that no live operational details had been disclosed.
