Iran: Two IRGC Personnel Killed in Attack in Sistan and Baluchistan

Tehran (Terror Monitor) — Two personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in an attack following a clash with Baloch armed groups in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan province, according to local Iranian media.

The incident reportedly took place in the Koorin area of Zahedan, where IRGC personnel came under attack after an armed confrontation with Baloch armed groups.

According to an Iranian broadcaster, the two personnel killed in the attack were affiliated with the Martyr Mir Hosseini Base, an IRGC Ground Forces base in Sistan and Baluchistan province.

The deputy head of the Sistan and Baluchistan governor’s office for security and law enforcement affairs said the two personnel were killed while their vehicle, which was transporting relief supplies and food for the Basij forces, came under attack.

Following the incident, security measures were reportedly intensified in the area, while authorities launched an operation to search for those involved in the attack.

Sistan and Baluchistan has long been considered one of the most challenging provinces for the Iranian government from a security perspective. The province, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has experienced repeated clashes and attacks involving Iranian security forces and Baloch armed groups.

Iranian authorities have frequently blamed anti-government Baloch armed groups for attacks in the region, while several Baloch groups have claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Iranian security forces and government installations.

No group had immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attack. Iranian authorities also did not provide further details about the number of attackers involved or whether there were any casualties among the armed group.
