Mali Military Convoy Ambushed, 50 Soldiers Killed and Dozens Captured

BAMAKO (Terror Monitor) — At least 50 Malian soldiers were killed and dozens of others were reportedly captured after armed militants ambushed a military convoy in the country’s northern region, according to media reports.

The attack took place amid an ongoing insurgency in northern and central Mali, where militant groups and armed factions have operated for years.

Initial reports said the convoy was attacked in a surprise ambush, with militants using automatic weapons and explosives to target military vehicles. Several soldiers were killed or wounded, while some troops were taken captive by the attackers.

The Malian military confirmed the attack and said additional forces had been deployed to the area, with operations underway to track down the assailants. Authorities have also launched an investigation.

No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack so far. However, armed groups linked to ISIS and al-Qaeda have carried out repeated attacks against Mali’s military and security forces in the Sahel region.

Authorities are investigating which militant group was behind the assault.
