Netanyahu Says No Diplomatic Deal Possible With Iran’s “Brutal Rulers”

Jerusalem (Terror Monitor) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that no diplomatic agreement is possible with Iran’s “brutal rulers,” while backing U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign to impose further economic pressure on Tehran.

Referring to his recent meeting with Trump, Netanyahu said the two leaders had discussed the possibility of a diplomatic solution with Iran. However, he expressed doubts that any agreement could be reached with the Iranian leadership.

“I doubt that any deal can be made with the brutal group there. I tell you, no deal can be made,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu made the remarks Tuesday night at a ceremony in Jerusalem for Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli prime minister has long expressed skepticism about diplomatic negotiations with Iran and strongly opposed the 2015 nuclear agreement reached between Tehran and world powers during the administration of former U.S. President Barack Obama.

However, as Trump seeks to resolve the conflict with Iran through negotiations, Netanyahu has avoided directly criticizing the current U.S. president.

Netanyahu also endorsed Trump’s campaign of economic pressure against Iran, saying he had briefed the U.S. president about what he described as a “third option.”

He praised Trump’s efforts to intensify economic pressure on Iran, saying the U.S. president was pursuing the policy “very, very, very strongly.”

According to Netanyahu, Trump has decided not only to target Iran but also to increase pressure on entities supporting the Iranian government.

“It is very important to tighten the noose around this regime and this terrible dictatorship and those who support it,” Netanyahu said.

Trump on Monday announced what he called an “economic D-Day,” aimed at crippling Iran’s economy.
