Pakistan: 3 Police Officers Killed in Two Terrorist Attacks in Lahore

Lahore (Terror Monitor) — Terrorists targeted police teams at two separate locations in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province, killing three police officers and injuring four people, including a passerby. Following the second attack, the armed assailants also hijacked a police vehicle and fled. CCTV footage of the attacks has emerged.

According to police, the attackers involved in both incidents were affiliated with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant organization. Police identified the main shooter in both attacks as Rehan Butt.

Attack on Police Team in Badami Bagh

Police said the first attack took place in Lahore’s Badami Bagh area after they received information that wanted suspect Rehan Butt was hiding inside a house.

A police team comprising Sub-Inspector Adeel and Head Constable Asad raided the suspected house. According to police, the suspects opened fire as soon as they saw the officers.

Sub-Inspector Adeel and Head Constable Asad were killed in the shooting, while the attackers fled in a rickshaw while firing.

Additional police personnel arrived at the scene following the attack, cordoned off the area and launched a search for the assailants.

Second Attack at Yateem Khana Chowk

Police officials said that while the search for the suspects and investigation into the first attack were underway, three armed men opened fire on a police team stationed outside the headquarters of a banned religious organization at Yateem Khana Chowk in Lahore.

D.I.G. Operations Faisal Kamran said police officer Haris Saleem was killed in the second attack, while three others — Owais, Shafiq and Azam — were wounded.

A passerby was also injured after being caught in the gunfire.

The attackers subsequently hijacked a police vehicle and fled the scene, according to authorities.

Suspects Linked to TTP, Main Attacker Identified

D.I.G. Operations Faisal Kamran said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects involved in both attacks were affiliated with the TTP.

Police identified Rehan Butt as the main attacker responsible for the shootings at both locations.

According to authorities, Rehan Butt’s brother, Faizan Butt, was killed about two years ago during an encounter with personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Police said Sub-Inspector Adeel, who was killed in the first attack, had registered a case against Rehan Butt in December 2024 over alleged threats.

CCTV Footage Emerges

CCTV footage of the attacks has also emerged, showing the movement of the armed suspects and the shooting.

Investigators are examining the CCTV footage, evidence recovered from the crime scenes and other information to trace the suspects’ movements.

Search Operation Underway

D.I.G. Operations Faisal Kamran said all teams from the Crime Control Department (CCD), Investigation Wing and Operations Wing had been mobilized to arrest the suspects.

Police launched search operations in various parts of Lahore and are monitoring the suspects’ possible hideouts and escape routes.

Punjab Inspector General of Police took notice of the attacks and ordered the immediate arrest of those involved, directing relevant officers to use all available resources to apprehend the militants.

Authorities said investigations into both attacks are continuing from multiple angles and efforts to arrest the suspects have been intensified.
