KARACHI (Terror Monitor) — Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), in coordination with a federal intelligence agency, has arrested three suspected terrorists linked to banned militant organizations during separate operations in Karachi, officials said.
According to a CTD spokesperson, two suspects allegedly affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were arrested during the first operation, while a third suspect linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was apprehended in a separate operation.
The arrests were made as part of joint efforts by counterterrorism personnel and federal intelligence officials to identify and disrupt suspected terrorist networks operating in Pakistan’s largest city.
The CTD spokesperson said security personnel recovered two hand grenades and one assembled improvised explosive device (IED) from the possession of the arrested suspects.
According to the department, the suspects were allegedly planning to target sensitive installations. However, officials did not specify which locations were being considered potential targets or provide further details about the alleged attack plans.
The arrests underscore continuing security concerns in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, where law enforcement agencies conduct operations against suspected members of banned militant organizations.
The BLA is a separatist militant organization that has claimed responsibility for attacks against Pakistani security forces and other targets, particularly in Balochistan. The TTP is a separate militant group that has carried out numerous attacks against Pakistani security personnel and civilians.
Authorities have not released the identities of the arrested suspects or disclosed whether further arrests are expected in connection with the operations.
The CTD has not provided additional details regarding the precise locations of the raids or the next legal steps in the cases.
The allegations against the arrested suspects have not been independently verified.
