Pakistan: Five Killed, Several Injured in Multiple Attacks Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar (Terror Monitor) — At least five people, including police and security personnel, have been killed and several others injured in a series of terrorist and armed attacks across different districts of Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In Khyber district, armed militants opened fire on a joint checkpoint operated by police and security forces at Takhta Baig in Jamrud, killing one police officer and one security official.

Sources identified the deceased police officer as Shumal Khan Shalmani, a resident of Loi Shalman in Landi Kotal, and the security official as Nazir Khan.

Following the attack, security forces tightened security in the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers.

Meanwhile, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Dobindo area of Dir district. According to sources, an exchange of fire took place between security forces and armed militants, resulting in the killing of three militants.

Security forces claimed to have recovered weapons and ammunition along with the bodies of the militants. Search and intelligence-based operations against other militant elements are continuing in the area.

In Mohmand tribal district, unidentified armed men attacked a police post with a hand grenade in Dab Chowk, Ambar tehsil, injuring five police personnel.

Police said the officers immediately returned fire after the attack, forcing the attackers to flee. The injured personnel were taken to a nearby hospital, where their condition was reported to be out of danger.

Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the attackers.

In South Waziristan Lower, unidentified armed men opened fire in Dog area of Wana, injuring Muhammad Khalid Khan, a member of a peace committee and commander of the Mullah Nazir Ahmad group, and Noor Ghulam.

According to sources, Muhammad Khalid Khan was critically injured and was being transferred to Dera Ismail Khan for further treatment after receiving initial medical care. However, he died of his injuries while en route.

Noor Ghulam was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana, where he is receiving treatment.

Separately, two brothers were injured in an alleged drone strike in Azam Warsak Darbalai area of Barmal tehsil in South Waziristan.

Sources said both injured men were initially taken to a hospital in Wana before being transferred to Dera Ismail Khan for further treatment.

Police sources said there were reports that a drone may have been used in the incident, but the nature of the attack and the identities of those involved remain unclear. An investigation is underway.

In Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire in Pasni area within the jurisdiction of Budhni Police Station, killing a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official identified as Humayun.

Police said the attackers fled after the shooting. Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to arrest the assailants.

According to sources, the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack on the CTD official.

Meanwhile, a security forces convoy traveling from Dera Ismail Khan toward Waziristan was allegedly targeted in a quadcopter attack, reportedly injuring around 20 personnel.

Initial reports said the injured included five Pakistan Army personnel and 14 Frontier Corps personnel, while the identity and unit of one additional official remained subject to further verification.

According to sources, the convoy was targeted during routine movement in an alleged drone attack. The injured personnel were shifted for medical treatment, while security was tightened in the area and relevant authorities began assessing the situation.

An initial list of the reportedly injured personnel included Hidayatullah, Lance Naik Anwar, Ismail, Sepoy Khushal, Subedar Shabbir, Sepoy Imdadullah, Sepoy Naheed, Lance Naik Muhammad Shahid, Subedar Jahangir, Subedar Abid Ali, Lance Naik Jabar, Lance Naik Asghar, Lance Naik Muhammad Waqas, Lance Naik Safatullah, Lance Naik Asif, Havildar Muhammad Hassan, Sepoy Jamshed, Sepoy Farooq, Musawir and Naik Haider Ali.

However, authorities have not yet issued final confirmation regarding the number, identities or units of the injured personnel. Sources also described the list as preliminary.

Following the incident, security agencies launched an investigation into the nature of the attack, the alleged drone’s direction and the elements involved.

Security sources said the possible use of drones and quadcopters during forces’ movements in sensitive areas of Waziristan has increased security concerns, prompting authorities to focus on aerial surveillance and counter-drone measures.

Officials said intelligence-based operations and search operations against militant elements are continuing across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while security has been further tightened in sensitive areas following the recent incidents.
