Pakistan, India Exchange Fire Along LoC

Srinagar, Islamabad (Terror Monitor) — Reports emerged of overnight firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the border district of Rajouri, marking what Indian officials describe as the first major ceasefire violation since the India-Pakistan military clashes in 2025.

According to the Indian Army, troops observed suspicious movement near the Tarkundi forward area at around 9:50 p.m. on Friday. An army spokesperson claimed that when soldiers challenged the movement, they came under what was described as "unprovoked" small arms and mortar fire from across the border.

Residents said the exchange of fire began at around 10:00 p.m. and continued for nearly 90 minutes, triggering panic in villages close to the LoC.

The Indian Army said a large-scale search operation was launched on Saturday morning to ensure no infiltrators had entered Indian-administered Kashmir. Senior commanders of the White Knight Corps are reportedly monitoring the situation, with frontline units placed on high alert.

There has been no official response from Pakistan regarding the incident.

Security analysts say the LoC had remained largely calm following the four-day India-Pakistan military confrontation after the Pahalgam attack in May 2025. While a few minor incidents were reported afterward, this is the first significant exchange of fire reported in nearly a year.

Residents living near the border described the incident as one of the most intense episodes since the 2025 clashes, saying many families spent the night sheltering inside their homes or bunkers amid fears of a wider escalation.
