Pakistan: Maulana Rashid Killed by Unknown Armed Militants in Swat

Peshawar (Terror Monitor) — Maulana Rashid Ahmed was killed after unknown armed militants opened fire on him in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police and local sources said.
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred around sunset on Saturday in the Chaprial area of Swat. Maulana Rashid Ahmed, son of Amir Muhammad, was on his way to a mosque near the local market to offer prayers when unknown armed militants targeted him.
He sustained critical gunshot wounds in the attack and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police shifted the body to a hospital and began legal proceedings.
According to police, a case was registered against unidentified suspects on the complaint of the victim’s father. An investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
Police sources said Maulana Rashid Ahmed had traveled abroad around three years ago for religious outreach activities and returned to his hometown of Chaprial a few months ago.
According to local sources, he had previously served as an imam at a local mosque in Chaprial Bazaar.
