Pakistan: Security Forces Kill 10 Militants, Wound 16 in Bannu Operations

Peshawar (Terror Monitor) — Security forces conducted multiple intelligence-based operations against militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by Pakistani authorities as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 10 militants and wounding 16 others, according to security sources.

The sources said security forces had been continuously monitoring militant movements and suspected hideouts following intelligence reports indicating the presence of militants in the area. After verifying the intelligence, operations were conducted at multiple locations.

According to the sources, quadcopters were also used during the operations to monitor and target militants. Security forces used aerial surveillance to track militant movements, hiding places and suspected positions.

Operation against alleged militant hideout in madrasa

Security sources said militants had allegedly been using a madrasa as a hideout.

The sources said the madrasa was evacuated before the operation to ensure the safety of civilians and those present inside the religious seminary. After civilians were moved to safety, security forces launched the operation.

According to the sources, militants opened fire from the madrasa, prompting security forces to return fire and target the attackers. Quadcopters were also used during the operation.

Militants hiding under trees targeted

The sources said militants attempted to evade security forces by hiding at different locations, including beneath trees.

They were identified through aerial surveillance and subsequently targeted by quadcopters, according to the sources.

Militants travelling on motorcycles were also detected through aerial surveillance and targeted during the operations.

10 militants killed, 16 wounded

Security sources said that 10 militants have been killed and 16 wounded so far during the intelligence-based operations in Bannu.

The sources said several suspected hideouts were destroyed and a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other military equipment was recovered from the militants.

Security forces have taken the recovered weapons and ammunition into custody, while efforts to locate additional hideouts and identify members of the militants’ network are continuing.

Clearance operation underway

According to security sources, clearance and search operations are continuing in the area to locate possible militant hideouts, facilitators and fleeing militants.

Security forces continue to conduct intelligence-based operations in Bannu and other sensitive areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against militant groups, targeting their hideouts, movements and logistical networks.

The operations are aimed at disrupting militant activities and improving the security situation in the region.

Note: Pakistan uses the term “Fitna al-Khawarij” to refer to militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
