ISLAMABAD (Terror Monitor) — Pakistani security forces have killed 11 suspected militants during separate operations in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the southwestern province of Balochistan, security sources said.
In the tribal district of South Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces killed five suspected members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an intelligence-based operation, according to security sources.
The sources said security forces targeted and destroyed militant hideouts during the operation and recovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition from the bodies of those killed.
Pakistan officially refers to militants associated with the TTP as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a terminology used by the country's military and government authorities.
Six Suspected Militants Killed in Balochistan
Separately, security forces killed six suspected militants during operations in the Gorandur and Mashkel areas of Balochistan, security sources said.
The operations were conducted as part of what the sources described as ongoing counterterrorism efforts under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3, targeting the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
According to the sources, militants attempted to flee after opening fire on a security checkpoint in Mashkel. Security forces responded and killed six suspected militants during the ensuing action.
Further details about the identities of those killed, the precise circumstances of the engagements and any casualties among security personnel were not immediately available.
The authorities did not provide an independently verifiable breakdown of the six fatalities between the Gorandur and Mashkel operations.
Pakistan's Counterterrorism Operations
The latest operations come amid continuing counterterrorism efforts in Pakistan's border regions, where security forces have conducted intelligence-based raids and operations against armed groups operating in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Pakistani military and government authorities use the term “Fitna al-Hindustan” to refer to what they describe as an Indian-backed militant network involved in terrorism, sabotage and unrest in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan. The allegation of Indian state support is the Pakistani government's position and was not independently established in the information available about these operations.
The security sources did not provide further details about the evidence linking those killed in Balochistan to the BLA or establish whether any of the suspects were connected to other militant networks.
Authorities have also not released additional information about possible arrests, the identities of the deceased or the full extent of the weapons and ammunition recovered during the operations.
The reported deaths bring the total number of suspected militants killed in the two provinces during the announced operations to 11, according to security sources.
