Pakistan: Suicide Blast Hits Rangers Compound in Karachi, 10 Killed

Washington, DC (Shabbir Turi) — A suspected suicide attack involving a vehicle-borne explosive device targeted a Rangers compound in the Gulistan-e-Johar area of Pakistan’s largest commercial city, Karachi, followed by intense gunfire.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion was heard late Saturday night near the Sachal Rangers facility in Block 5 of Gulistan-e-Johar, after which intermittent and heavy firing continued in the area.

Official sources said at least 10 people have been killed in the incident, including security personnel, while several others are reported injured. However, the government has not yet officially confirmed the final casualty figures.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a swift response operation. The area has been sealed and movement of civilians has been restricted.

The outlawed group claimed that four suicide attackers had entered the compound, while according to official sources, claims have also emerged that five attackers were killed during the operation.

Law enforcement agencies, including Rangers, reached the site and a clearance and search operation is ongoing.

According to Rescue 1122, emergency teams were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the alert.

A spokesperson for the Sindh government said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has sought an immediate report on the incident and directed police and security agencies to determine the nature and extent of the attack.

The outlawed Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing and the situation is being closely monitored. Further details are awaited.
