Kuwait City (Terror Monitor) — Kuwaiti authorities have arrested three members affiliated with the Islamic State (Daesh) on suspicion of planning attacks on a Shiite mosque and key installations in the country.
Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing a security source, reported that the suspects belonged to a Daesh cell and included minors. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the suspects had planned to target a Shiite mosque as well as sites considered critical national installations in Kuwait.
According to the source, security agencies detained three members of the cell during an operation. Authorities said the suspects were allegedly preparing to carry out the planned attacks.
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry has previously announced the arrest of individuals linked to Daesh (ISIS). The ministry said two minors had been detained after allegedly receiving training to manufacture explosives for an attack on a place of worship.
The Interior Ministry also announced the arrest of a Kuwaiti national accused of membership in ISIS (Daesh) and planning attacks on critical installations in the country. According to authorities, the suspect had also prepared a drone to target such facilities.
Kuwaiti authorities described the arrests as part of security operations aimed at preventing potential terrorist attacks. However, officials have not disclosed further details about the possible timing of the planned attacks, the specific targets, or the legal proceedings against the suspects.
In recent years, Kuwait has strengthened security measures amid concerns over threats from Daesh-linked groups, particularly against religious sites. Authorities have placed increased emphasis on protecting places of worship as well as key government and strategic installations.
