Saudi Oil Tanker Targeted in Strait of Hormuz, Two Filipino Sailors Killed

Riyadh (Terror Monitor) — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said an Iranian attack targeted the Saudi oil tanker ‘Sidr’ while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in casualties among the vessel’s crew.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the attack caused loss of life among the tanker’s crew. The Saudi shipping company later confirmed that two Filipino sailors were killed in the incident.

According to the shipping company, the oil tanker was targeted two days ago while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The company subsequently confirmed the deaths of two Filipino members of the vessel’s crew.

Greek maritime risk management company Marisec said that two oil tankers were targeted from an unknown direction in the Strait of Hormuz during the night between Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) gave a different account, saying that two oil tankers struck sea mines while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing fires to break out on both vessels.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry also condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, expressing solidarity with the three countries.

The ministry stressed the need to prevent further escalation and highlighted the importance of protecting the safety of international shipping and global energy supplies.

It also emphasized respect for the principles of good-neighborly relations, state sovereignty, the United Nations Charter and international law.

“Saudi Arabia calls on all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate, respect international law, and return to negotiations and peaceful solutions,” the ministry said.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes and a critical passage for the transportation of oil and other energy supplies from the Gulf to global markets. Rising tensions in the region have increased concerns over the safety of commercial and oil vessels operating in the waterway.
