Damascus (Terror Monitor) — Syrian authorities have intercepted a shipment of weapons and advanced missiles allegedly smuggled into the country from Iraq, according to Syria's state news agency SANA, citing a source in the Interior Ministry on Thursday.
The report said preliminary investigations indicate that the shipment was intended for the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
The seizure comes amid increased regional efforts to curb the movement of weapons across Syria's borders.
In June, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had discussed efforts to counter Hezbollah during talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's presidency said President Joseph Aoun had received assurances from Ahmed al-Sharaa that Syria would not support any party in Lebanon's internal affairs.
