US Approves $5 Billion Arms Sale to Saudi Arabia

Washington, D.C. (Terror Monitor) — The U.S. State Department has approved a $5 billion deal to sell military equipment to Saudi Arabia.
According to the State Department, Saudi Arabia had requested guidance systems for several thousand bombs and long-range missiles, and the request has been approved.
The department said the deal would include not only the weapons but also necessary support equipment, spare parts, other related items, and technical, engineering and logistical support services.
The United States described the agreement as part of efforts to strengthen the security of a key ally. The State Department said the deal would also contribute to political stability and economic development in the Gulf.
The department said the agreement would strengthen Saudi Arabia’s air-defense capabilities to help it address existing regional threats.
