WASHINGTON (Terror Monitor) — U.S. forces carried out a new wave of airstrikes across several Iranian ports and cities on Tuesday, intensifying the conflict after President Donald Trump warned Tehran would pay a "heavy price" for recent American military casualties.
The strikes targeted multiple locations in southern and western Iran, with explosions reported in Shiraz, Chabahar, Konarak, Khorramabad, and near Abdanan, according to Iranian state media and Reuters.
In response, Iranian forces launched retaliatory attacks against U.S. military and economic interests in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Reuters also reported that American military targets in Jordan were struck, while an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was hit during the latest exchange.
The renewed hostilities have effectively undermined the temporary ceasefire reached earlier this year through Pakistani mediation between Tehran and Washington. The truce had raised hopes for broader peace talks, but recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz triggered a fresh round of U.S. airstrikes and Iranian retaliation.
Regional tensions have further escalated after Iran-backed Houthi rebels threatened a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia. According to Reuters, the Houthis warned shipping companies that vessels carrying oil from or cargo to Saudi ports could be targeted "anywhere," raising fears of a wider regional conflict involving Saudi Arabia.
