SANAA (Terror Monitor) — Yemeni government forces have intensified their military campaign against Iran-backed Houthi fighters, reporting more than 2,750 strikes against the group’s positions over a 24-hour period and more than 1,400 fighters killed.
Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said the operations targeted weapons and ammunition depots, military camps, defensive fortifications, artillery positions and military vehicles across several fronts.
According to the military statement, the strikes were part of an ongoing offensive aimed at weakening the Houthis’ military capabilities and restricting their movements, reinforcements and ability to sustain combat operations.
The figures were reported by Yemen’s internationally recognized government. Al Jazeera and other international news outlets have reported the military’s account, but the casualty figures and extent of the damage have not been independently verified.
The spokesperson said the operations had also targeted military supply facilities and logistical infrastructure used by Houthi forces.
In an earlier battlefield assessment, al-Nuzaili reported more than 1,150 Houthi fighters killed or neutralized and over 180 combat and military support vehicles destroyed or disabled.
He also said government ground forces had advanced on several fronts, regained control of a number of positions and secured strategically important high ground.
The military said its forces were continuing to consolidate their advances while conducting clearance operations in areas where Houthi fighters remained active.
The latest offensive forms part of a broader campaign by Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces to recapture territory held by the Houthis, including strategically important areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital international shipping route linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
The Houthis have not issued a response to the latest reported casualty figures. The number of fighters killed and the extent of the reported destruction remain independently unconfirmed.
