GAZA: Israeli Airstrikes Kill Four Palestinians as Ceasefire Talks Stall

GAZA CITY (Terror Monitor) — At least four Palestinians, including three members of the same family and a six-year-old girl, were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, according to Palestinian health officials.

Health authorities said an Israeli strike on a residential building in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, killed Omar Abu Qasim, his wife Asma, and their six-year-old daughter Habiba. Their son was injured in the attack.

The Israeli military said the strike targeted a Hamas militant.

In a separate strike in Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, another Palestinian was killed. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on that incident.

According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since a ceasefire came into effect in October, with civilians accounting for the majority of the casualties. During the same period, four Israeli soldiers were reportedly killed in attacks by armed groups in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Hamas leaders concluded another round of ceasefire negotiations in Cairo on Tuesday. The talks, mediated by Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, focused on implementing the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Sources familiar with the negotiations said key issues under discussion included Hamas' disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. However, little progress was made due to deep mistrust between the two sides.

The second phase of the peace initiative includes transferring governance from Hamas to a U.S.-backed Palestinian technocratic committee, deploying an international stabilization force, and launching the reconstruction of the war-ravaged territory.

According to the sources, Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania have pledged troops for the proposed international force. However, no deployment has taken place due to the continued deadlock in negotiations.

Most of Gaza's nearly two million residents remain displaced, living in temporary tents or damaged buildings along a narrow coastal strip.

The war began after Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed, according to Israeli figures. Gaza's Health Ministry says more than 73,000 Palestinians have since been killed in Israeli military operations.
