Houthis Say Saudi Airstrikes on Yemen’s Sanaa Kill 11, Including Six Women and a Child

SANAA (Terror Monitor) — Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group has claimed that Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on the capital, Sanaa, and surrounding areas on Saturday killed at least 11 people and wounded several others.

According to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah television network, the airstrikes targeted residential buildings in Sanaa Governorate, including a house in the capital and accommodation for workers at a cement factory.

Al-Masirah reported that at least four people were killed and several others injured when an airstrike hit a residential house in Sanaa.

In a separate attack, a residential building housing workers at a cement factory in Hamdan district of Sanaa Governorate was struck. The broadcaster said the attack killed six women and one child and wounded three other people.

The reported death toll from the two attacks stood at 11, according to Houthi media. The casualty figures and circumstances of the strikes could not be independently verified.

The Saudi-led military coalition had not immediately commented on the reported casualties or the allegations that residential buildings were struck.

Saudi Coalition Reports Intercepting Two Missiles

The reported airstrikes came shortly after the Saudi-led military coalition announced that its air defences had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the western Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu.

Saudi Civil Defence authorities had earlier issued warnings of potential threats in several western regions, including Taif, Yanbu, Makkah and Jeddah. The alerts were subsequently lifted after authorities announced that the immediate danger had passed.

The latest developments come amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, with missile launches, drone attacks and airstrikes increasing in recent weeks.

The Houthis have also claimed attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure, airports and military facilities, although Saudi authorities have not independently confirmed all the group's claims.

Renewed Escalation in Yemen

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against the Houthis since 2015, following the group's takeover of Sanaa and its expansion into large parts of the country.

The conflict had largely subsided following a United Nations-brokered truce in 2022. However, fighting intensified again in July 2026 amid the wider escalation of tensions across the Middle East.

The renewed confrontation has raised concerns about further civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure, as both sides continue to report attacks on their respective territories.

Yemen's prolonged conflict has devastated the country's economy, damaged essential infrastructure and contributed to a severe humanitarian crisis, leaving millions of people dependent on humanitarian assistance.

The latest reported casualties in Sanaa highlight the risks to civilians as hostilities intensify, while the exchange of missile attacks and airstrikes raises the prospect of further escalation across the Arabian Peninsula.
