India: Five Terrorist Associates Arrested in Kulgam as Arms Cache Recovered in Handwara

SRINAGAR (Terror Monitor) — Indian security forces have arrested five alleged terrorist associates during a joint operation in Kulgam district of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, recovering pistols, ammunition and grenades, police said.

The arrests were carried out in the Khrewan Chadder area of Kulgam following what police described as credible intelligence inputs. The operation involved Kulgam Police, Army personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Police identified the arrested suspects as Tajamul Hussain Mir, Rehmat Ali Naikoo, Tehrim Ahmed Bhat, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat and Kifiyat Ahmed Dar.

According to police, security forces recovered two pistols, three magazines, 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition and three grenades from the suspects.

A case has been registered at Kulgam police station under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway to establish the suspects’ alleged links and activities.

Large Arms Cache Recovered in Handwara

In a separate operation in north Kashmir, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition from an old underground hideout in the Nagda Nar forest area of Handwara in Kupwara district.

Handwara Police, along with personnel from the Army’s 21 Rashtriya Rifles and the 92nd Battalion of the CRPF, conducted a joint search operation following specific intelligence inputs, officials said.

During the operation, the security forces located and destroyed the old hideout and recovered one AK-47 rifle, three grenades, 857 AK rounds, 192 PIKA rounds, eight AK magazines, one silencer and 83 pistol rounds, along with other material.

Police registered a separate case at Handwara police station and launched an investigation into the weapons cache and the circumstances surrounding the hideout.

Security Operations Intensify

The two operations come amid continued security operations across Jammu and Kashmir targeting suspected terrorist networks, weapons caches and alleged support structures.

Indian authorities have repeatedly said that recovering hidden weapons and arresting alleged associates is aimed at preventing armed groups from rebuilding their networks in the region.

The latest cases remain under investigation, and the allegations against the arrested individuals have not been tested in court.
