Iran Warns Any New US Military Action Could Widen War as Qatar Renews Diplomatic Efforts

TEHRAN (Terror Monitor) — Iran’s military has warned that any new US military action against the country could trigger a wider regional conflict, as diplomatic efforts intensify to prevent a renewed outbreak of hostilities between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian Army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia issued the warning on Saturday in a post on X, saying that any further US military “adventure” in the region could cause the flames of war to spread across a much wider geographical area.
“If the US president once again embarks on another adventure in the region under pressure from and inducement by the Zionists, the flames of war will undoubtedly engulf a much wider geographical area,” Akraminia said.
He added that Iran’s armed forces were continuously strengthening their combat readiness and closely monitoring US military movements in the region.
The warning came as regional mediators, particularly Qatar and Pakistan, continued efforts to bring the United States and Iran back to negotiations and prevent another round of military confrontation.
Qatar Sends Delegation to Tehran as Vance’s Letter Raises Hopes for Talks
A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday for discussions with senior Iranian officials as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and revive negotiations.
Reuters reported on Saturday that Qatari mediators had returned to the Iranian capital in an effort to broker an agreement. However, Washington and Tehran remain divided over the sequence of negotiations, particularly whether discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme should take priority or whether sanctions and the US blockade of Iranian ports should be addressed first.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance has reportedly sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council chief, Mohsen Rezaei, in an attempt to reopen diplomatic channels.
According to reports by The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, the letter was intended to explore whether the two sides could establish a framework for negotiations and avert possible further US military strikes.
Al Jazeera reported that the letter was delivered through Qatari intermediaries. It reportedly proposed a meeting between American and Iranian officials, potentially led by Vance on the US side.
The letter has not been made public, and its reported contents have not been independently verified. Iran has not publicly announced a formal response to the initiative.
Mojtaba Khamenei Orders Military to Maintain Full Readiness
In a separate development, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has instructed senior commanders of the country’s armed forces to maintain a high level of military preparedness and respond immediately to any potential threat.
According to a statement published by Iranian state media, Khamenei said that the armed forces must be prepared to confront threats of any level and nature, without allowing geographical boundaries to limit their response.
He warned that if Iran’s adversaries resume military or terrorist attacks, Tehran would determine the timing, nature and conditions of its response.
Khamenei also called for strengthening Iran’s defence capabilities, military intelligence infrastructure and access to modern military technologies. He stressed the need to provide the armed forces with the resources and support required to maintain their operational readiness.
He further emphasised that Iran’s defence strategy and military objectives should be regularly reviewed in response to threats posed by the United States and Israel.
The statement also highlighted public support as an important pillar of Iran’s national defence.
Senior commanders from the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly briefed the supreme leader on national security, border conditions and military preparedness.
However, Mojtaba Khamenei has not made a publicly documented appearance since becoming Iran’s supreme leader. No independently verified photographs, video footage or audio recording of the reported meeting were available in the reports reviewed for this story.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Issues Separate Warning
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned that the country’s armed forces were prepared to respond to any threat against Iranian citizens.
“Iran’s powerful armed forces will deal with all those who dare to harm our people,” Araghchi said.
His remarks came amid continued uncertainty over whether diplomatic efforts would succeed in preventing another military confrontation.
Tehran has repeatedly warned that any renewed US or Israeli attacks would provoke a response, while Washington has maintained pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme and regional security policies.
Egypt Warns of More Destructive Regional Conflict
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed serious concern over the possibility of another escalation in the conflict between the United States and Iran.
Speaking at the IISS Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain on Saturday, Abdelatty warned that a new round of hostilities could be even more dangerous and destructive than previous confrontations.
“I am extremely worried,” he said, adding that another round of fighting would be more dangerous, more destructive and unlikely to produce a meaningful resolution.
According to Reuters, Abdelatty also referred to the failure of an interim agreement reached in June to establish a lasting ceasefire or restore normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
His remarks reflected growing regional concerns that renewed fighting could have consequences extending beyond Iran and the United States, particularly for Gulf security, international shipping and global energy supplies.
Midterm Elections Add to Diplomatic and Military Uncertainty
The diplomatic developments are unfolding just days before the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
The conflict and its economic consequences, including higher energy prices and disruptions to regional shipping, have become politically sensitive issues in the United States.
US media reports have suggested that the Trump administration is considering further military options if diplomatic efforts fail. However, no new US attack has been officially announced.
For now, Qatar and other regional mediators are attempting to prevent a renewed confrontation, while Tehran continues to signal that its armed forces are prepared for a broader conflict if attacked.
The coming days could prove important for determining whether Washington and Tehran return to negotiations or move toward another escalation.
