Mojtaba Khamenei Vows Revenge for Father’s Killing, Trump Warns Iran

Tehran (Terror Monitor) — Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed to avenge the death of his father, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during a U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran, while U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Washington would “destroy” Iran if it attempted to assassinate him.

Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 in an airstrike launched at the beginning of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, according to Iranian reports.

In a written statement attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei and broadcast on state television, he said, “Revenge is the demand of the nation and it will certainly be fulfilled.”

“We pledge to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars from the criminal and disgraced killers,” the statement said, adding that Iran’s “revenge is inevitable.”

The statement was issued after funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly since his father’s death and was also absent from the funeral ceremonies. U.S. officials have claimed that he was seriously injured in the late February strike that killed his father.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump warned that if Iran attempted to assassinate Mojtaba Khamenei, the United States would respond by “destroying” Iran.
