Nine Militants Killed in Intelligence-Based Operations in North Waziristan, Pakistan Says

PESHAWAR (Terror Monitor) — Pakistani security forces have killed nine militants in a series of intelligence-based operations in North Waziristan, a tribal district in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said.

The operations were conducted in Palangzai, Nadeem Kot and Kot Khazri, where security forces targeted suspected hideouts of militants associated with the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), according to the sources.

A substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the militants killed during the operations, while several militant hideouts were also destroyed, the sources said.

No further details were immediately available regarding the identities of those killed, the specific weapons recovered or whether any security personnel were injured during the operations.

PM Shehbaz Sharif praises security forces

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their operations in Palangzai, Nadeem Kot and Kot Khazri, describing them as evidence of Pakistan’s continued commitment to eliminating terrorism.

In a statement, the prime minister said the successful operations reflected the country’s “unwavering resolve” to eradicate terrorism and establish lasting peace.

He commended officers and personnel of the Pakistan Army for their efforts to maintain security and stability, adding that militants would not be allowed to achieve their objectives.

Sharif’s remarks came as Pakistani security forces continued counterterrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the TTP and other militant groups have carried out attacks against security personnel and civilians.

Interior minister vows continued counterterrorism operations

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also reiterated the government’s commitment to continuing operations against militants.

Naqvi said action against terrorist networks would continue without discrimination under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam vision, which Islamabad has presented as part of its broader strategy to strengthen national security and counter terrorism.

Pakistani authorities have repeatedly pledged to pursue militant groups operating in the country’s border regions, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Pakistan’s official terminology for TTP militants

The Pakistani government and military use the term “Fitna al-Khawarij” to refer to militants associated with the TTP. The terminology reflects the state’s official position and is frequently used in military statements about counterterrorism operations.

The latest operation adds to Pakistan’s ongoing security campaign against militant networks in the northwestern tribal districts.

Security sources said the operations targeted militant positions and that the recovery of weapons and ammunition, along with the destruction of hideouts, formed part of efforts to disrupt the groups’ activities.

However, the authorities had not released further independently verifiable details about the individuals killed or provided additional evidence concerning their specific roles within the militant organization.

The International Criminal Court has unsealed details of arrest warrants against four senior Taliban leaders, including Taliban Supreme Leader Haibatullah Akhundzada, over alleged crimes against humanity involving gender persecution. The ICC says the warrants concern systematic discrimination against women, girls and people perceived as violating Taliban gender norms, while the Taliban rejects the court’s jurisdiction and allegations.
