PESHAWAR (Terror Monitor) — Six security personnel were killed when their vehicle was struck by a landmine during an intelligence-based operation against Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists in the Girdai Nala area of Kurram district in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, while eight terrorists were killed in the ensuing operation, according to security sources.
The sources said security forces launched the operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of TTP terrorists in the area. During the operation, security forces and the terrorists exchanged heavy fire, resulting in the deaths of eight terrorists.
A security forces vehicle was targeted by a landmine during the operation, killing six personnel. Some security personnel were also reported to have been wounded in the exchange of fire, although the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Following the operation, additional security personnel were deployed to the area, while a security cordon was tightened. A search and clearance operation is underway to locate any terrorists who may have escaped.
Security sources said operations against terrorist elements would continue and that all necessary measures were being taken to maintain peace and security in the area.
The Girdai Nala area is reportedly active for the banned TTP’s Kazim Group. Security forces have previously faced several attacks in the area, in which dozens of police and security personnel, including military officers, have been killed.
