Peshawar (Terror Monitor) — Two terrorists were killed during a police operation in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, while a station house officer (SHO) and another police constable were wounded in an exchange of fire, police officials said.
The operation took place in the Darra Hasan Zai area of the Orakzai tribal district, within the jurisdiction of Mishti Police Station in Central Orakzai, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Shaukat Ali.
The exchange of fire left SHO Muhammad Younis and Constable Saleem injured. Both officers were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical treatment.
Police Identify the Deceased
DPO Shaukat Ali said the two men killed during the operation belonged to the Qambar Khel tribe of Khyber district.
Police officials alleged that the men had been harassing local residents and demanding money in the name of Ushr, an Islamic agricultural levy traditionally collected from agricultural produce.
Authorities have not publicly identified the organisation to which the two men allegedly belonged, and no independent confirmation of the allegations against them was immediately available.
Details of the Operation
The operation was conducted in the area covered by Mishti Police Station, where police personnel encountered the suspected terrorists, leading to an exchange of gunfire, according to the DPO.
The injured officers were taken to the DHQ Hospital. Further details about the operation, including whether any weapons or other material were recovered, were not immediately available.
