Prominent Tribal Leader Killed in IED Blast in Pakistan's Hangu District

PESHAWAR (Terror Monitor) — A prominent tribal leader and member of a local peace committee was killed in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, police said.
According to Terror Monitor, the attack occurred near Karapa Road in Hangu district, where the vehicle of Haji Izzat Gul, a well-known tribal elder from Orakzai district, was targeted by a roadside bomb.
Police said Haji Izzat Gul was initially taken to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Hangu after sustaining injuries. He was later referred to Peshawar for advanced treatment but succumbed to his wounds.
District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Habib confirmed the incident, saying the tribal leader's condition deteriorated after initial medical treatment, leading to his death.
Officials said Haji Izzat Gul was a key member of the Kurram Peace Committee and played a significant role in peace efforts across the districts of Kurram, Orakzai, and Hangu, including participation in local peace agreements.
The blast also seriously injured a passerby, who was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Bomb disposal experts and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene to determine the nature of the explosion and identify those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
