Russia claims to repel 60 drone attack on Moscow as Russian strikes kill five in Ukraine

Moscow/Kyiv (Terror Monitor) Russia said it repelled a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow early Monday, claiming its air defenses shot down nearly 60 drones heading toward the capital. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported that Russian drone strikes killed at least five people across Ukraine.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed approximately 60 drones targeting the capital. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the impact sites, though authorities did not immediately provide further details.

Russian officials said operations at several major Moscow airports were temporarily suspended due to the attacks before flights later resumed.

The latest assault came just days after Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted Moscow's only oil refinery, marking one of the most significant aerial attacks on the Russian capital since the full-scale war began in 2022.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities accused Russia of targeting civilian and commercial infrastructure during overnight drone strikes. One attack reportedly hit a commercial vessel, killing an Egyptian crew member.

In Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, a Russian drone strike killed three members of the same family, including a 13-year-old boy, his 36-year-old father, and his 73-year-old grandmother.

Drone warfare has intensified on both sides of the conflict, with repeated cross-border attacks causing mounting civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure.
