U.S. Launches Airstrikes on Iran, Targets Missile and Drone Facilities

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Terror Monitor) — The United States has announced a new round of airstrikes against military targets in Iran, saying the operation targeted missile and drone storage facilities as well as coastal radar installations.
In a statement released late Friday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces struck multiple Iranian military sites, including missile and drone depots and coastal radar systems.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out in response to a drone attack on a commercial cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran had not issued an official response to the U.S. strikes at the time of publication.
Shortly before the operation was announced, U.S. President Donald Trump was asked whether Washington would respond to the attack on the cargo ship. He replied, "You'll see."
CENTCOM said the operation was intended to respond to what it described as Iranian aggression against commercial shipping and reaffirmed that U.S. forces would continue protecting freedom of navigation and supporting commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest escalation follows a drone strike on a cargo vessel near Oman on Thursday night. The vessel sustained damage, but no casualties were reported.
The strikes come despite a 14-point ceasefire memorandum reached between the United States and Iran on June 17, under which Iran had agreed to help ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints, carrying a significant share of global oil and natural gas exports. Renewed military tensions in the area have raised fresh concerns over regional security and international energy markets.
