Quetta Terror Monitor) — Armed militants from the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attacked a city police station and a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) facility in Kharan district of Pakistan's restive Balochistan province, damaging the buildings and setting parts of them on fire, officials said.
Balochistan Home Department spokesperson Babar Yousafzai said security forces and police responded swiftly, thwarting the attackers' objectives.
According to police, a large group of armed militants entered Kharan city shortly after midnight between Saturday and Sunday and targeted the City Police Station before attacking the nearby CTD office.
A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the attackers managed to enter the City Police Station, where they vandalized the premises and set furniture and official records ablaze. Similar damage was inflicted on the CTD facility, with furniture, records, and parts of the building being burned.
The official said the assailants fled before reinforcements from security forces, CTD, and police reached the scene.
Clashes later erupted in parts of the city between security personnel and the militants. During the exchange of fire, five civilians from the same family—including women and children—were injured after bullets struck their home. The wounded were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Babar Yousafzai said the militants failed to achieve their objectives due to the rapid response by security forces and police, adding that there were no fatalities in the attack.
