A police officer has been killed and 11 people have been abducted in separate incidents across Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province, while reports of attacks on cargo vehicles and the imposition of a curfew in Nushki have emerged amid worsening security conditions.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Murid Bugti was killed in an armed attack in Barkhan district.

According to officials, armed men had set up a roadblock in Barkhan when DSP Murid Bugti was traveling in a private vehicle along with a police official. The attackers stopped the vehicle before opening fire.

Balochistan Chief Minister’s Media Coordinator Shahid Rind said the attack resulted in the death of DSP Murid Bugti, while the police official accompanying him was injured.

Authorities said a search operation has been launched in the area to trace the attackers and action against anti-state elements will continue.

11 People Abducted in Kech and Khuzdar

In another incident, seven laborers were abducted by unidentified armed men in the Kalatuk area of Kech district.

Officials said the attackers set up a blockade and kidnapped the workers, who were non-local laborers. One of the abducted workers was later killed in firing, while the remaining six were taken away by the gunmen.

Separately, four people were abducted from the Karkh area of Khuzdar district. Officials said the abductees were working on an irrigation project and included a project manager and a surveyor.

Cargo Vehicles Set on Fire in Chagai

Meanwhile, seven cargo vehicles were set on fire in the Padag area of Chagai district.

Officials said the vehicles included three oil tankers and four trailers traveling from Quetta toward Taftan.

In another incident, two trucks were reportedly stopped between Dalbandin and Padag, where their rice cargo was removed.

Authorities have blamed the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) for the attacks, though the claims and responsibility have not been independently verified.

Curfew Imposed in Nushki

A curfew has been imposed in Nushki district following a deterioration in the security situation.

Officials said militants attacked a security forces checkpoint south of Nushki city, after which security personnel carried out a retaliatory operation. No casualties among security forces were reported, while the attackers escaped.

The incident created fear among residents, and business activities were suspended in parts of the city.

According to a notification issued by the Balochistan Home Department, the curfew will remain in effect from 8:00 pm Tuesday until 8:00 pm on July 31.

The restrictions prohibit unnecessary movement, gatherings, and other activities, while security personnel, medical staff, and emergency service providers have been exempted.

Authorities said security measures across Balochistan are being further tightened to improve the law and order situation.
