Saudi Arabia Proposes Multinational Naval Alliance for Red Sea Security

RIYADH (Terror Monitor) — Saudi Arabia has unveiled a proposal to establish a multinational naval defense alliance aimed at protecting international shipping lanes and energy supply routes in the Red Sea.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the proposed alliance seeks to strengthen maritime security, safeguard freedom of navigation, secure global trade and energy corridors, and protect shared maritime interests in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden.
The ministry said representatives from 43 countries and the European Union participated in an international meeting to discuss the initiative. Under the proposal, Saudi Arabia would serve as the founding and leading nation, with the alliance's headquarters based in the Kingdom.
The initiative comes amid continued disruptions to one of the world's busiest shipping routes following attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense said 14 countries, including Türkiye, Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, and Djibouti, endorsed the proposed alliance through a joint statement. Oman and the United Arab Emirates were not among the Gulf states that supported the declaration.
