RIYADH (Terror Monitor) — Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh on Tuesday, with the two leaders discussing bilateral relations, opportunities to expand cooperation and the latest regional developments.

Syrian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani also attended the meeting. According to a statement issued by the Syrian presidency, the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen and expand relations between the two countries in line with their shared interests.

They also exchanged views on recent developments in the region and a number of issues of mutual concern, with an emphasis on supporting security and stability across the region.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Mohammed bin Salman and al-Sharaa reviewed bilateral relations, opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in various fields and ways to further develop those ties. Regional developments were also discussed.

Saudi officials attending the meeting included Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Adviser Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban. The Syrian delegation included Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Syria’s chargé d’affaires in Riyadh, Mohsen Mahbash.

According to Syria’s state news agency, al-Sharaa arrived in Riyadh earlier Tuesday for an official visit and was received by Riyadh Region Governor Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz. Al-Shaibani accompanied the Syrian president.

The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions, particularly the escalating confrontation involving Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has also been engaged in increased diplomatic and defense activity, including recent developments involving collective defense cooperation with Pakistan and Türkiye under the Makkah defense arrangements.

The official statements issued following the meeting did not announce any specific military action in Yemen or any joint operation against the Houthis. Instead, both sides focused on bilateral relations, expanding cooperation and the broader regional situation.

Relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia have seen increased high-level engagement in recent months, with Riyadh and Damascus seeking to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across multiple areas.
