Trump Announces 'Historic' Gaza Agreement as Hamas Confirms Deal

Washington (Terror Monitor) — U.S. President Donald Trump has announced what he described as a "historic" agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza, saying it marks an "extraordinary step toward lasting peace and security."

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the agreement would pave the way for the establishment of a new Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip. He said the new administration would work with a Board of Peace to improve the welfare of Palestinians while ensuring Israel's security.

According to Trump, the deal represents a major milestone in implementing his 20-point plan for ending the conflict and rebuilding the war-ravaged enclave.

He said the agreement would be implemented in phases. As the disarmament process progresses, Israeli forces would gradually withdraw from Gaza, while an international stabilization force, working alongside a newly formed Palestinian police force, would assume responsibility for maintaining security.

Trump's announcement came one day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returned to Israel following his visit to Washington, where he met with the U.S. president at the White House.

Hamas Confirms Agreement

According to AFP, two senior Hamas officials, speaking anonymously on Friday, confirmed that an agreement had been reached.

The officials said they expect mediators—Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey—to ensure that Israel fulfills its commitments under the deal, including the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

Despite Trump's announcement and Hamas' confirmation, Israel and the mediating countries have not yet officially endorsed the agreement.

Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, Germany, the European Union, and several other countries.

Israel Yet to Respond

Israel has not issued an official response to the agreement.

However, before Trump's announcement, an Israeli official said the 15-point proposal under discussion through Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediation did not satisfy Israel's demand for the complete demilitarization of Gaza.

Israel has maintained that it will not withdraw its forces beyond the so-called "Yellow Line" until Hamas is fully disarmed.

What Happens to Hamas' Weapons?

Under the agreement, governance of Gaza during the disarmament process would be transferred to an interim Palestinian technocratic committee.

According to AFP, a senior Hamas official said the group would not hand its weapons directly to Israel. Instead, the weapons would be placed under the custody of the interim administration and international mediators.

The official added that the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza would oversee the inventory, registration, secure storage, and management of the weapons according to an agreed timeline.
