Yemeni Forces Recapture Positions West of Taiz Amid Escalating Houthi Clashes

TAIZ (Terror Monitor) — The armed forces of Yemen’s internationally recognized government have recaptured positions west of Taiz after Houthi forces entered the area, according to the Saba news agency affiliated with the Yemeni government.

The military said its forces had regained control of several positions and were continuing to advance toward additional areas.

According to Saba, Yemeni forces carried out airstrikes against Houthi gatherings, destroying several military vehicles and triggering the explosion of a stockpile of medium-caliber ammunition. At least 10 armed Houthi members were killed in the strikes, the agency reported.

The developments came as the Saudi-backed Yemeni government pledged to strengthen its military presence along the Red Sea coast amid escalating clashes with the Houthis.

Meanwhile, Saudi Civil Defense issued early warnings over potential threats in four southern cities: Najran, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Abha. The warnings were later withdrawn after the authorities announced that the threat had passed.

Oil prices also rose by more than three percent in global markets on Monday as the shutdown of a key Saudi oil pipeline, renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Iranian attacks on vessels in the Gulf intensified concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies.

Houthi-affiliated media reported on Sunday that Saudi Arabia carried out strikes against Saada province in northern Yemen, the group’s main stronghold.

Al-Masirah TV reported that two airstrikes targeted areas in Saada, while the border district of Manbah came under artillery fire.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi forces carried out airstrikes in several Yemeni provinces, including Taiz, Lahj, Al Jawf, Hajjah, Al Bayda and Saada, over a 24-hour period. He said the strikes involved F-15 fighter jets operating from Khamis Mushait airbase.

The Houthis also carried out missile and drone attacks targeting a military base in southern Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Saree said the attack targeted weapons storage facilities and command-and-control rooms at a base in the Saudi city of Sharurah. He said ballistic missiles and drones were used in the operation.

The Yemeni government has also intensified air operations against Houthi positions in several areas, destroying military equipment and killing Houthi members amid the escalating confrontation.
