Anti-Muslim Hate and Discrimination Surge in Germany, Report

BERLIN (Terror Monitor) — Germany has witnessed a significant rise in anti-Muslim hatred, discrimination, and Islamophobic incidents, according to a new report released by the CLAIM network, which monitors anti-Muslim hate crimes across the country.
The report documented 4,096 anti-Muslim incidents last year, including 214 cases of physical violence. CLAIM warned that the actual number is likely much higher, as many victims choose not to report incidents due to fear, distrust, or concerns about possible repercussions.
According to the report, victims face significant obstacles when filing complaints, particularly in schools, public institutions, and in their interactions with police. Many parents avoid reporting incidents involving their children out of fear of retaliation or negative consequences.
CLAIM said the silence of victims should not be interpreted as an absence of harm. Instead, such experiences have profound and long-lasting effects on victims' quality of life, mental well-being, and sense of security.
The report noted that fear, uncertainty, and frustration are growing within Germany's Muslim communities as anti-Muslim sentiment continues to rise.
According to the network, 26 advisory centers across 13 of Germany's 16 federal states documented Islamophobic incidents in 2024. Last year, the number of participating advisory centers increased to 38 centers across 15 states, meaning direct comparisons between the two reporting periods should be made with caution.
