Iran Reaffirms Seven Conditions for US Talks as Araghchi Briefs Pezeshkian and Cabinet on Diplomatic Efforts

TEHRAN (Terror Monitor) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has briefed President Masoud Pezeshkian and members of the cabinet on the latest developments in indirect negotiations with the United States through regional mediators, as Tehran maintains that any diplomatic settlement must address its previously announced conditions.

According to a statement published on President Pezeshkian’s official Telegram account, Araghchi attended a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, where he provided ministers with a detailed briefing on the ongoing diplomatic process, recent communications with Washington and developments in efforts to revive negotiations.

The statement said the foreign minister updated the cabinet on the latest diplomatic contacts and discussed various aspects of the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The briefing comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Qatar to prevent a further escalation of the conflict between Tehran and Washington.

Iran insists on seven conditions for negotiations

Separately, Araghchi briefed members of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, reiterating that Tehran remains committed to seven conditions it has previously announced for negotiations and a possible diplomatic settlement with Washington.

According to committee spokesman Hassan Qashqavi, the foreign minister discussed recent regional and diplomatic developments and explained Iran's position on the negotiations.

Iran's publicly stated demands include the lifting of US economic sanctions, the release of Iranian financial assets frozen abroad, an end to military hostilities and a reduction or withdrawal of American military forces from the region.

Other conditions previously outlined by Iranian officials include guarantees against further attacks on Iranian territory, non-interference in Iran's internal affairs and the lifting of the US naval blockade.

However, not all seven conditions have been publicly detailed in a single official statement, and their precise wording and scope remain unclear.

Iranian officials have maintained that Tehran will not accept an agreement that fails to address its security, economic and sovereignty-related concerns.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye involved in diplomatic efforts

The parliamentary briefing also covered recent visits by delegations from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to Tehran and their meetings with senior Iranian officials.

The discussions were part of broader regional efforts to establish a framework for cooperation on security and reduce tensions amid the continuing confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

According to the Associated Press, senior delegations from the three countries visited Tehran on October 26, meeting President Pezeshkian and other senior Iranian officials.

The delegations included Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Türkiye's intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin.

The meetings were hosted by Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

The four countries agreed to continue discussions on expanding regional cooperation, particularly in the areas of peace and security. Saudi officials said the diplomatic initiative was intended to ease regional tensions and promote stability.

Anadolu Agency also reported that the visit was part of efforts by members of the Mecca Alliance to promote a regional security framework and facilitate diplomatic solutions to the ongoing crisis.

Mohsen Rezaei and Iran's military preparedness

According to Hassan Qashqavi, Mohsen Rezaei also participated in discussions surrounding the recent diplomatic contacts and regional security situation.

The parliamentary committee reviewed instructions issued by Iran's Supreme Leader concerning preparations for what officials described as any extraordinary or exceptional circumstances.

Particular attention was given to maintaining the operational readiness of the Iranian armed forces and ensuring the country's defensive capabilities remain fully prepared to respond to potential security threats.

The discussions reflect Tehran's position that diplomatic engagement with Washington must proceed alongside military preparedness and the maintenance of national defence capabilities.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that the country remains prepared to respond to any further military action against its territory.

Regional mediation continues amid stalled US-Iran negotiations

Diplomatic efforts to bring Washington and Tehran back to negotiations have intensified in recent weeks, with Pakistan and Qatar playing important intermediary roles.

The Associated Press reported on October 26 that Qatari mediators had also travelled to Tehran as part of efforts coordinated with Washington to reduce regional tensions.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that Tehran had not closed the door to diplomacy and that messages were continuing to be exchanged with the United States through intermediaries.

However, he criticised Washington's position, saying American officials were continuing to make unilateral demands, including calls for Iran's complete surrender.

The diplomatic process remains complicated by disagreements over sanctions, Iran's nuclear programme, frozen financial assets, the US military presence in the region and the future security arrangements in the Middle East.

A previous US-Iran memorandum of understanding, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar in June 2026, aimed to establish a framework for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending the US blockade of Iranian ports and beginning broader negotiations on outstanding issues, including Iran's nuclear programme.

However, the arrangement subsequently collapsed after military hostilities resumed.

Despite continued regional mediation, no comprehensive agreement has been announced, and it remains uncertain whether the latest diplomatic contacts will lead to a formal resumption of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
