Israel's Netanyahu Welcomes Lebanon Peace Deal, Calls It a 'Historic Achievement'

JERUSALEM (Terror Monitor) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has welcomed the U.S.-brokered peace agreement with Lebanon, describing it as a "historic achievement" for Israel and a major setback for Iran and Hezbollah.

In a televised address, Netanyahu said that following direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, the two sides had reached what he called a landmark agreement.

"Yesterday, after direct talks between Israel and Lebanon, we reached a historic agreement that represents a major achievement for the State of Israel," he said.

Netanyahu added that the agreement would reshape the regional balance of power and weaken the position of Iran and Hezbollah.

The Israeli prime minister also stressed that Israeli forces would remain deployed inside a security zone established in southern Lebanon. According to him, the zone extends approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory and is intended to address Israel's security concerns.

"We will remain in this area until Hezbollah and other armed groups are disarmed," Netanyahu said.

He further claimed that both the United States and Lebanon had accepted Israel's position that it could maintain the security zone inside Lebanese territory to ensure its security.

"We will stay in this security zone until Hezbollah and all other armed organizations are completely disarmed and there is no remaining threat to Israel from Lebanese territory," he added.
