Trump Threatens to Bomb Oman if It Interferes in U.S.-Iran Talks

Washington (Terror Monitor) — U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Oman if it obstructs Washington’s talks with Iran, according to Fox News.

Fox News reporter Trey Yingst said Trump made the warning during a phone call on Monday, saying that the United States would carry out heavy bombing if Oman got in the way of the negotiations.

The warning comes as Oman is playing a key role in diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran and is involved in talks with Iran over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Strait of Hormuz Talks

Iran said Monday that an understanding had been reached with Oman regarding the routes for vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters in Tehran that the two sides had reached an understanding on a map for maritime transit routes.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important waterways and carries a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Any prolonged disruption could have a major impact on international energy markets and global trade.

Iran has imposed major restrictions on maritime traffic through the strait since U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran in February. Restoring shipping through the waterway has become one of the key issues in negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Trump Claims Secret IRGC Contact

During the same conversation, Trump also claimed that the United States had a direct secret channel with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IRGC rejected the claim

An IRGC spokesman told the semi-official Tasnim news agency that no negotiations were taking place between IRGC officials and U.S. officials.

The spokesman described Trump’s claim as “imaginary,” saying it reflected what he called the U.S. failure and helplessness in the war.

U.S.-Iran Understanding

A 60-day memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is also due to expire Monday. The understanding was aimed at keeping negotiations going as the two sides sought to reach a broader agreement.

Oman has presented itself as a neutral party in the conflict and has played a role in facilitating diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran.

Despite coming under several Iranian attacks during the conflict, Muscat has continued its efforts to mediate over the Strait of Hormuz and other issues.

Strategic Importance of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is a critical route for global energy supplies. Any disruption to shipping through the waterway can affect international oil and gas prices.

The reopening of the strait has become a major issue in U.S.-Iran negotiations. While Iran says an understanding has been reached on maritime transit routes, significant differences remain between Washington and Tehran.

Trump’s threat against Oman and his claim of secret contacts with the IRGC come as Muscat continues its efforts to mediate between the two sides.
