Tel Aviv (Terror Monitor) According to a statement issued by the Israeli military, four of its soldiers were killed while “serving during combat operations.”
Among them was Lieutenant Colonel Dor Gidalya Ben Simhon, while the identities of the other three soldiers have not been disclosed.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not specify where or when the four soldiers were killed.
In a separate statement, the Israeli military also said that a reserve officer was seriously wounded in an explosion during a drone attack in southern Lebanon. Four other Israeli soldiers were also lightly injured in the same incident.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said on Friday, June 19, that 47 people were killed in new Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon.
According to the ministry, at least 47 people were killed and 97 others injured as a result of recent Israeli airstrikes across the country.
The ministry said the casualties occurred between midnight and midday.
In another statement, it said: “Intense Israeli airstrikes began last night and continued into Friday morning, severely hampering rescue operations in targeted areas.”
It also reported that in initial figures, 18 people were killed and 33 injured in strikes carried out across at least 10 villages and towns in southern Lebanon.
A key development in the ongoing violence in southern Lebanon, along with the reported deaths of four Israeli soldiers, is that these are the highest casualties reported in the Lebanon conflict since the signing of the “Islamabad Understanding Document,” described as an interim peace arrangement between Washington and Tehran aimed at de-escalating the Iran conflict.
Under this deal, it was expected that hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel in Lebanon would also come to an end, but violence has continued.
This has raised concerns that the failure to end the Lebanon conflict could undermine progress made toward ending the Iran war and make a lasting peace more difficult to achieve in the future.
Israel has stated that it will continue military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon when necessary, while Hezbollah has also carried out attacks on Israeli forces stationed in southern Lebanon.
