ISLAMABAD (Terror Monitor) —Pakistan has successfully test-fired its first indigenously developed FAZ air-to-air missile, marking a significant milestone in the country's efforts to strengthen its domestic aerospace and defense capabilities, the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced.
According to Pakistan's state media, the missile is equipped with an advanced terminal guidance system and is capable of engaging aerial targets at long ranges, potentially enhancing the operational capabilities and combat flexibility of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
In a statement, the ISPR described the successful test as another major achievement in the development of Pakistan's national aerospace and defense capabilities. It said the FAZ missile would significantly enhance the operational flexibility of the Pakistan Air Force and further strengthen the country's overall defense posture.
The military's media wing said the successful test demonstrated the technological maturity, innovation and growing self-reliance of Pakistan's domestic defense industry.
The test was witnessed by senior officers of Pakistan's armed forces, along with prominent scientists and engineers involved in the missile's development, the ISPR said.
The statement added that Pakistan's civil and military leadership had congratulated the scientists and engineers who contributed to the development of the missile.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the chiefs of the armed services extended their congratulations to the development team, recognizing their contribution to strengthening the country's indigenous defense capabilities.
The successful test represents a step forward in Pakistan's efforts to develop advanced military technologies domestically, reduce reliance on foreign defense systems and enhance the technological capabilities of its armed forces.
The FAZ missile's development is expected to contribute to the Pakistan Air Force's ability to engage aerial threats and maintain operational flexibility as the country continues to expand its indigenous defense production capabilities.
However, the ISPR statement did not disclose the missile's exact operational range, speed, platform compatibility or other technical specifications.
