Saudi Crown Prince Urged Trump to Strike Houthis, but US President Rejected Request

Washington, D.C. (Terror Monitor) — Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made two phone calls to U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday and urged him to launch military strikes against Yemen’s Houthi group, according to U.S. officials cited by the American news website Axios.

Axios reported that Trump rejected the Saudi crown prince’s request. U.S. officials said the Trump administration does not currently intend to launch direct military action against the Houthis.

The report said Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), made an emergency visit to Saudi Arabia on Thursday amid growing concerns over the regional security situation.

According to Axios, U.S. military and civilian officials have told their Saudi counterparts in recent weeks that, under Trump’s direction, Washington’s priority remains focused on Iran and protecting commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The officials reportedly emphasized that the United States wants to avoid opening another military front while it remains engaged in its broader confrontation with Iran.

The reported exchange between Trump and Mohammed bin Salman comes as tensions across the region remain high, with the security of the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz emerging as major concerns for the United States and its regional allies.

The Houthis have previously targeted commercial and military vessels in and around the Red Sea, citing their opposition to Israel and the war in Gaza. Any renewed U.S. military campaign against the group could further widen the regional conflict and place additional pressure on international shipping routes.

The Axios report indicates that Riyadh is seeking a stronger U.S. response to the Houthi threat, while the Trump administration is currently attempting to keep its military focus on Iran and the strategic Strait of Hormuz rather than opening a separate front in Yemen.
