Washington (Terror Monitor) — U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed the Mecca Mutual Defense Pact signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, saying he was pleased to see the three countries establish the new defense agreement.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he was “very happy” to see that Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan had finally signed the Mecca Mutual Defense Pact.
Trump said the agreement demonstrated that the Middle East was becoming more united and that countries would ultimately be able to defend themselves more effectively.
He congratulated the leadership of all three countries, describing the agreement as a “big, bold and important first step.”
Pact signed in Mecca
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the mutual defense agreement in Mecca on August 7.
Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three, according to the agreement.
The pact was signed by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening defense and security cooperation among the three countries and enhancing coordination in response to potential security threats.
Pakistan signals possible expansion
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has indicated that the defense arrangement could potentially be expanded, saying that cooperation on peace and security is not necessarily limited to the three signatories.
The agreement comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing efforts by countries in the Middle East and beyond to strengthen security and defense cooperation.
