JERUSALEM (Terror Monitor) — Israeli Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited troops deployed around the historic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon on Sunday, saying that Israel will continue its operations against Hezbollah.
According to the Israeli military, Zamir told soldiers that the Israel Defense Forces would continue “decisive operations” to eliminate threats from Lebanese territory and would respond immediately to any violations of the ceasefire with offensive action.
The military statement said Israeli forces have taken control of the Beaufort Castle area, which it described as a strategically important position.
Israel also claimed that a network of tunnels was discovered beneath the site, which it said was being used by Hezbollah fighters, backed by Iran, as a fortified military base near the border.
Zamir further stated that ongoing operations in southern Lebanon are being conducted in line with a US-brokered agreement aimed at establishing lasting stability between Israel and Lebanon.
He warned that any threat against Israeli forces or civilians would be “immediately targeted and eliminated,” urging the Lebanese army to fulfill its responsibilities under the agreement and clear the area of Hezbollah infrastructure and fighters.
