Saudi-Led Coalition Says Houthi Ballistic Missile Attacks From Yemen Intercepted

Riyadh (Terror Monitor) — The Saudi-led coalition has said it successfully intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group toward southern areas of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the coalition said its air defense systems detected and destroyed the missiles before they could reach their intended targets. Officials did not immediately provide details on the number of missiles launched or the exact locations targeted.

The development came after Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed they had targeted Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport with ballistic missiles and drones.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the operation was carried out in response to what he described as “Saudi aggression” after alleged strikes on Sanaa International Airport.

The Saudi government has not issued an immediate statement regarding the Houthi claim of an attack on Abha airport.

Earlier reports said Yemeni forces had targeted the runway of Sanaa International Airport in an attempt to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing there. The Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for the strikes.

Houthis Threaten Saudi Infrastructure

The Houthi group had previously warned that it would target Saudi Arabia’s key infrastructure and strategic facilities if military operations against Yemen continued.

The latest developments come amid renewed regional tensions and concerns over a possible escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government, while the Iranian-backed Houthi movement controls large parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa.

The Houthis have carried out numerous missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia and other regional targets in recent years, many of which Riyadh says were intercepted by its air defense systems.
